2011 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY March 2011 Vagina Monologues - Dick & Jane, proud Sponsor.  March 8th, 2011 - Marked International Women's Day.  Dick & Jane is proud to be a sponsor of the Richmond Hill International Women's Day event. This celebration has been hosted annually at City's Centre for Performing Arts.  We have been sponsoring Women's Day every year since we opened in 2008. As a female owned and operated business, it's a perfect match for Dick & Jane, we believe in supporting and celebrating women on a daily basis, this annual event is like the icing on our the cake! This year was no different, we were thrilled when we were asked if we would sponsor the world famous "Vagina Monologues", by Eve Ensler.   The close to Sold Out performance and silent auction was a huge success with over $10K was raised to support The Sandagate Women's Shelter here in Richmond Hill. It was an absolute pleasure to take part in this year's Women's Day celebration - we look forward to doing it again next year! A Brief Intro to The Vagina Monologues Wikipedia. The Vagina Monologues is made up of a varying number of monologues read by a varying number of women (initially, Eve Ensler performed every monologue herself, with subsequent performances featuring three actresses, and more recent versions featuring a different actress for every role). Every monologue somehow relates to the vagina, be it through sex, love, rape, menstruation, mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the variety of names for the vagina, or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality. Eve Ensler wrote the first draft of the monologues in 1996 (there have been several revisions since) following interviews she conducted with 200 women about their views on sex, relationships, and violence against women. The interviews began as casual conversations with her friends, who then brought up anecdotes they themselves had been told by other friends; this began a continuing chain of referrals. In an interview with women.com, Ensler said that her fascination with vaginas began because of "growing up in a violent society." "Women's empowerment is deeply connected to their sexuality." She also stated, "I'm obsessed with women being violated and raped, and with incest. All of these things are deeply connected to our vaginas." Ensler wrote the piece to "celebrate the vagina." Ensler states that in 1998, the purpose of the piece changed from a celebration of vaginas and femininity to a movement to stop violence against women. The play first opened at HERE Arts Center in New York City on 3 October 1996 with a limited run that ran through November. The play gained popularity through a word of mouth campaign that culminated with a performance at Madison Square Garden in 2001, which featured Melissa Etheridge and Whoopi Goldberg performing segments of the play. The Vagina Monologues have been performed in several Muslim countries deemed liberal enough to hold the performances, including Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Pakistan.

2010 ANNUAL LADIES DAY VIP EVENT August 2010 Sunday August 15, 2010 marked the 2nd annual Dick & Jane "VIP LADIES DAY" event. The event is an all day affair for our female customers - a day for all of us to let loose and enjoy ourselves, it is a day to celebrate women and all of our fabulous sexy sides!   From 10am until 5pm customers were able to score incredible deals from our in-store sale on lingerie, sex toys, lotions and more.  All while enjoying a glass or two of champagne and sampling some of our yummy edible products and herbal libido hightening drinks like Nexcite and Sex Water....I am sure the people these ladies came home to were more then satisfied with the results! Our 2010 Costume collection was launched at this Ladies Only event and customers had the oppotunity to get 'em while they're hot!   This years selection includes French Maids, School Girls, Police Officers, Nurses, Beer Maidens, Sailors, Race Car Divers many many more...I am sure there must have been some role playing behind closed doors that night! Customers were thrilled with our end of season clearance specials and took full advantage of the swimwear and summer apparel deals extended on this one day event.  In addition to the sales and samples, customers were all given a free gift bag full of lubricants, sex toys and novelty item simply for attending.  Even better were the raffle draws that took place every 15 minutes - these take aways allowed customers to go home with some of the latest and greatest freebies ever!  A big thank you to all of my awesome suppliers for supporting this event and making it possible! VIP LADIES NIGHT August 26, 2009  Wednesday August 26, 2009 was the first annual Dick & Jane "VIP LADIES NIGHT", and what a night it was! From 5pm until 8pm the boutique was closed for a private party that hosted well over 100 fabulous women from the boutique's VIP Club List (subscribe here). This special evening included a Rotating Costume Fashion Show, Raffle Draws, Free Gifts, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries & Champagne for Every Guest, An Educational Guide on Dick & Jane's Sexual Wellness Product Selection and of course 50% Off Lingerie & Apparel, Lotions, Sex Toys, Games, Books & More.  It was brilliant to see so many incredible women under the same roof - you are the reason we are here - your pleasure is our business and we strive to ensure you get only the best of the best when it comes to our service and selection!  A big warm thank you to everyone for joining us and making our first ANNUAL Ladies Night a huge success, we couldn't have done it without you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICK & JANE February 7th, 2009 It was one year ago today that Dick & Jane Romance Boutique opened the doors to store # 1 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Customer Appreciation Day  July 20,2008.  A huge thank you to all of our customers that came out in support of our first annual Dick & Jane Customer Appreciation BBQ on Sunday July 20th, 2008. A tropical-inspired environment set the perfect backdrop for friends and lovers who spent the day dancing to reggae beats, savoring the flavors of a light BBQ and taking advantage of some unbelievable in-store promotions.
